We publish the Ceced comment on the Commission’s Communication on an Energy Union for Europe, where they underline the need to put consumers at the heart of Europe’s future energy policy, and reward their contribution.
Says Paolo Falcioni, Director-General of Ceced: “Europe needs to bring consumers into the centre stage to make Energy Union a success, as the electricity market will require greater integration between energy generation and use. Energy Union is the opportunity to make it happen.”
Smart technology is the tool to help manage the supply and demand for available energy. The market should reward consumers by incentivising them to use appliances to best match energy availability. This smart use coupled with energy efficient appliances will drive down energy consumption and improve overall electricity network stability.
Falcioni concludes: “200 million European households equipped with appliances to drive down and manage energy consumption and help balance the supply and demand for energy in Europe: it is our positive vision for the future of energy.”
