Major domestic appliances (MDA) recorded a strong growth in the Swedish market during the first semester 2017. The sector closed the period with a value increase of 8.3% compared with the same months of the previous year. According to GfK Temax, slimline dishwashers drove growth within category, while promotions helped microwave ovens to achieve a good trend during the second quarter. It was not a good period, instead, for refrigerators and freezers, that saw a decrease of the volume. Sales of freestanding cookers also dropped as consumers preferred built-in appliances.
As regard small domestic appliances (SDA), Swedish consumers showed a great interest for hot beverage makers, especially for premium segments. And as in the other European countries, a good trend is visible also for vacuum cleaners of latest generation.
Among the worst performances, we can mention the shaving category, because of the fall in demand for men shavers and epilators. Also food preparation category declines, mainly due to lower demand for kitchen machines. The whole sector of small domestic appliances recorded a decrease of 0.4% in the first semester.
