Ceced president, Reinhard Zinkann, took part last November 8 at a meeting in Brussels with the first vice-president of the European Commission Timmermans and the vice-president of the European Commission Katainen, responsible for Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness. Media representatives and other relevant stakeholders were also in attendance. During the meeting, Zinkann made a speech to explain the needs and point of view of the home appliances industry.
He underlined that ecodesign and the energy label are key elements of the past, present and future of Europe’s product energy policies. They also form part of a much wider picture that includes Europe’s developing Energy Union and will have an important influence on the creation of future sustainable growth and jobs. He also stressed the importance of allowing industry to get on with its job of designing products, stating: «The European Commission should focus on regulating products, and not regulate components inside final products, if these products are already covered by ecodesign regulations… When it is needed and carefully crafted, the EU’s ecodesign and energy labelling policy can secure progress. When rules are designed with the right end-objective in mind.»
