Yoko Ono has signed the new illy Art Collection, presented at the exhibition of the artist, “Yoko Ono: One Woman Show, 1960-1971” at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. The exhibition, started on May 17, will be open until September 7. Mended Cups is the name of her illy Art Collection, inspired to the concept of healing and protecting from fractures. It is composed by six cups showing cracks adjusted with gold, accompanied by six different saucers that tell, handwritten by the artist, six catastrophic events that hit the earth; some have had a direct impact on her life, others only indirectly, bringing death to millions of people. Each plate shows the date and the place of the tragic event and ends with the words “… mended in 2015”.
The seventh cup of the collection, Unbroken cup, is intact, without any cracks or repairs, and expresses peace and hope in the words of Ono written on the saucer: “This cup will never be broken as it will be under your protection.”
